I have a question for you guys! As a geologist I work with earthquakes and volcanoes all the time, and to me they are an expression of the power of nature. I would love to hear how you guys think about earthquakes and volcanoes.

Here are some pictures to get you thinking!

I took this photo on the Turnigan Arm outside of Anchorage Alaska. These trees are dead. Why they are dead to me is the interesting part. These trees are on a tide flat, during the 1964 Great Alaska earthquake (M9.2) the whole area was down dropped due to the release of stress in the earthquake. These threes were lowered so that their roots were in salt water. So they died. BUT the fun part is if you dig down you can see the roots of older trees that died in other older earthquakes! (yes I totally geek out on this stuff)

I took this picture at the end of Spirit Lake looking towards the crater of Mt St Helens. The area I am standing in was stripped of treed by the LAKE when the landslide that took most of the edifice of Mt St Helens hit the lake.

So I would love to hear how you think about things! I'm just curious!
